At Home Oral Care
Good dental habits are the only way to prevent tooth decay and oral diseases. Often times, individuals think that a simple brushing of their teeth is enough to prevent oral issues. Dentists know that it requires a bit more than a scrub of a tooth brush. Here are the basics you need to perform on a daily basis.
Start with a good brushing of your teeth. Brushing twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. The trick is all in the technique. Brush in a firm circular motion across your teeth. Do not put too much pressure as you run the risk of causing damage to your teeth and gums. Brush over the entire surface of your teeth (front, back, and sides).
Flossing is also key and should be done about once a day. Any floss will do, simple cut off about a foot of floss, wrap one end around your middle finger on one hand and the pointer finger on another. Gently work the floss between each tooth and slide it under the gum line. Don’t worry about bleeding while flossing as it will stop as your gums become healthier.
Mouthwash is another great addition to your oral routine. Not only will it eliminate bad breath but will also reach places that your toothbrush and floss have missed. Just keep in mind that it is not a replacement for either brushing or flossing, so do not use it as such.
Do not forget to pay a visit to your dentist. Residents of the El Segundo or Carson area can look to Avalon Dental Care for their check-ups. It is one of the most important dental habits and should not be missed.
