What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry involves using medication to help anxious patients relax while getting the dental care they need. Regardless of the type of sedation you receive, we will use a local anesthetic to numb the area and relieve your pain and discomfort.

Who Is a Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is recommended for people with dental phobia, a real fear or anxiety that interferes with getting their needed dental care. It is also beneficial for patients with sensitive teeth, a bad gag reflex, a low pain threshold, or complex dental problems. Sedation dentistry is especially helpful for children who can't sit still for long periods or those requiring a large amount of dental work completed.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral sedation involves taking medication about an hour before your dental procedure to allow you to relax. This form of conscious sedation can range from minimal to moderate, depending on the dose of sedative we prescribe you. You'll feel drowsy and relaxed, but you'll be awake and responsive to directions throughout your treatment. The best part is that you won't remember much about the procedure. The effects of the sedative will linger until the next day, so make plans to have a trusted adult drive you home after treatment.
