What Is the Tooth-Colored Filling Procedure?
April 16th, 2021
Even with the best oral hygiene practices, most people will require a dental filling at some point. Avalon Dental Care is proud to offer tooth-colored fillings that deliver incredibly natural-looking and feeling results. Here’s all you need to know about these cosmetic fillings and what to expect during the procedure.
Tooth-Colored Fillings Overview
Tooth-colored restorations are made from a composite resin material that we closely match to your natural tooth color, shade, and appearance. They are mainly used to repair teeth damaged due to decay and cavities but can also restore the health and function of chipped, broken, or worn teeth. Many of our patients replace existing silver amalgam fillings with composites for a seamless smile. When placed, tooth-colored fillings bond to the tooth’s structure and restore 85 to 95 percent of its strength.
What Is the Tooth-Colored Fillings Procedure?
After numbing the area with a local anesthetic, we will remove the decayed or damaged portion of the affected tooth and will clean and sterilize the cavity. Next, we will place the dental filling material and shape it to resemble a natural tooth. A special curing light will harden your filling, after which we will make any needed adjustments. The last step is smoothing out and polishing your new restoration. Your treated tooth will look, feel, and function just like any of your natural teeth!
Caring for Teeth with Dental Fillings
Teeth with tooth-colored fillings need the same meticulous care as your natural ones. Make sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily to keep your smile clean and healthy. Don’t forget to visit Avalon Dental Care for your routine twice-a-year dental exams and cleanings.
