How Restorative Dentistry Can Fit Your Needs

September 15th, 2017

Are you ready to restore your beautiful smile? Many dentists provide restorative dentistry involving diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of oral diseases. You may need to restore decayed, chipped, discolored, or missing teeth. Cosmetic dentists have an edge with providing restorations that look and feel natural.

Types or Restorative Procedures

Crowns and Bridgework: Crowns are used to restore teeth, or to cover damaged, cracked or chipped teeth. Your cosmetic dentist will match the color of your teeth to give you a natural look. A bridge is a device that is anchored to crowns on neighboring teeth to replace one or more missing teeth.

Fillings: Dental composites today are usually made of a hard plastic material that fuses to the tooth and holds it together.  Amalgam fillings are not used much anymore due to their mercury content and their unnatural appearance.

Air Abrasion and Micro Dentistry: Your cosmetic dentist will use a powder called aluminum oxide under air pressure to remove small cavities without the need for any anesthetics and without removing healthy enamel.

Cosmetic Dentures: Dentures are used to replace missing teeth to allow you to chew and bite properly and to avoid sagging features. Your dentures may replace all or some of your teeth. You may choose removable dentures, or opt for dental implants. Implants involve your dentist placing a titanium screw in your jaw bone, then connecting a crown to it. Implants give better results, and look and feel more natural than removable dentures.

Veneers: Veneers are usually made of porcelain or composite, and are cemented to the surfaces of one or more teeth to help improve their appearance. Veneers restore chipped, cracked, or uneven teeth.

Bonding: This treatment will help restore teeth with discoloration, cracks, rotting, or gaps. Bonding is non-invasive and will restore your natural smile.

Other Restorations: There are other procedures available, based on your needs. Your cosmetic dentist will recommend the treatment that will work best for you.
