Teeth Whitening: DIY or Dentist?

Teeth Whitening
Are you self-conscious about your smile because it is not as bright or as white as you would like it to be? Easy solutions to this problem is through teeth whitening. There are two ways you can go about whitening your teeth, through over-the-counter kits or with a dentist. The choice will depend on what works best for your lifestyle.
Choosing the Best Way to Whiten Your Teeth
Over-the-Counter Whitening Kits
There are a wide variety of teeth whitening products to be found in stores. You can purchase gel, swabs, strips, and paint kits in any drugstore. If you are going to go this route then dentists will normally recommend the strips because you are less likely to swallow harmful chemicals or harm your gums.
The most enticing part of these kits is that they are affordable and easy to use. Unfortunately, the effects do not last quite as long as going to the dentist. If your teeth are severely discolored then you will want to use a stronger method as drugstore kits are mild.
Whitening at the Dentists
Professional teeth-whitening treatments are best for those who regularly eat and drink food that can cause discoloration or smoke. They can expect their results to last up to 6 months and longer if they do not partake in those habits that can cause discoloration.
The cons of a professional whitening is that they tend to cost more and can cause sensitivity to hot or cold food or drink. This sensitivity will only last for a short period of time.
