Taking the Mystery Out of a Dentist Visit
Previously, we have discussed how fear of the dentist office can lead to people avoiding the office altogether. That leads to a slew of dental health issues that are not worth the pain and frustration they inevitably cause. Fear of the dentist often stems from the unknown, we have broken down what you should expect from a dentist visit.
Visiting Your Dentist
Your first dentist visit is considered a check-up and treated as such.
First, your dentist will conduct a full examination. This includes examining your teeth, gums, and mouth to look for signs of any oral health issues such as cavities or even oral cancer. The goal is to ensure that your oral health is on track or to stop problems in their tracks.
Depending on a variety of factors, such as age or risks of disease, your dentist will also perform an x-ray. The purpose of x-rays is to diagnose problems that go unnoticed. Impacted teeth, tooth decay, tumors, and cysts are a few problems that can be spotted by an x-ray.
Lastly, your dentist will take this opportunity to do a teeth cleaning. Chances are, your teeth are in need of a good scrubbing. All a cleaning consists of is removing plaque build-up and tartar on the teeth. They may also polish and floss your teeth as well.
